How long to cook burger in Airfryer

Air frying anything makes a better version of the food compared to pan frying it. For starters, you are not adding oils so it is already a healthier option. But, there will also be fewer dishes to wash, and overall more convenience on your part.

Air-frying burgers make for a quick, easy, fulfilling meal. On days when you are just not feeling like cooking, cutting, or washing, this can be a total lifesaver especially if you are a mother with fussy children or someone who works ungodly hours. This is a technique I implore you to learn and perfect.

When I was a student working two part-time jobs, learning to air fry burgers was a total game changer for me. It gave me another alternative to instant noodles for dinner. And it was much heartier, it gave me the energy I needed. And ever since I ask anyone who would listen to learn to cook a burger in an air fryer.

I will not bore you with tales of my life much longer. If you are already here, you must be planning to have that burger meal soon. So let’s cut to the chase.

Of course, there are myriad factors that go into perfecting the craft. But, if you are in a pinch, the rule of thumb is to cook the burger in an air fryer for 9-10 minutes.

And, if you’d like to finesse it a bit more, just keep on reading.

How to Air Fry a Burger to Perfection

You will start with the prep that goes into making the patty. First is the choice of meat. Beef is a good choice because it has good fat content so it stays tender even after being fried in the air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef patty
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • Bbq sauce (optional)

Cooking Process

The cooking process is easy. You only need a handful of ingredients to get the job done, and there is no chopping and cutting involved. You just need clean hands and some measuring spoons. Let’s get going.

The Patty

One frequent concern with air-frying burgers is that they can come out a little too dry and brittle. For this, you need to pick your meat carefully. The ideal meat-to-fat ratio is 80:20. This will ensure a tender and juicy end product once you are done frying everything. So, make sure you have a good cut of meat that makes up the patty.

Seasoning

Now comes the seasoning. Nothing is as depressing as an unseasoned burger patty. And, even worse, if the patty is unevenly seasoned. To make sure your burger patty gets cooked through and gets a nice distribution of all the seasoning, you need to prepare it well.

Here I recommend using all powder form seasoning. Because, this is a no-brainer, out-the-door sort of meal. And onions and garlic will not get enough loving in an air fryer. If you are in the mood for something simple, just add in salt, pepper, and some onion and garlic powder.

Tip: If you have an all-spice seasoning mix this is a great opportunity to put that to use.

Once you have mixed up your burger patty thoroughly, shape it with your hands. Press your thumb in the middle of the patty to create a dent, this makes sure the patty won’t puff up and ruin the flavors.

Here’s where you get to play a bit. I prefer putting a nice glaze of bbq sauce on the patty. This helps to bring out the taste. And adds a nice caramelized finish to the patty. You can skip this step entirely and add any other table sauce later on too.

But doing it at this step would save you time and enhance the taste. So, why not?

Cooking in the Air Fryer

And, you’re done with the prep. Now, on to the cooking part. First, make sure your air fryer is clean. Any residue from your last usage can alter the taste of your burgers.

Now put the patties in the air fryer basket and cook for about 6 minutes. Then take the patties out, flip them, and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Once that time is up take the patties out and use a meat thermometer to pierce the thickest part of the patty.

The ideal temperature is about 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

If your meat isn’t entirely cooked through, you can give it another blast for a couple more minutes.

If you want to add cheese, this is the right time for it. Add a slice of cheese and stick it back in the air fryer while it finishes cooking.

Assembling the burger

Once done, take them out and assemble your burger. You can choose between different toppings. You can add pickles, jalapenos, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, etc. according to your preference.
